1) Does your state have any "Best Practices"?

2) Is your states workforce commission under the community college system?

Michigan is going through more changes again. The workforce commission is not under the community colleges. The community colleges participate only in training agreements with the 25 workforce agencies that operate 100 one stop centers. We are actually separating the workforce commission activities from the economic development activities. Our state has a Michigan Economic Development Corporation which has met with much favor with business, industry and our community colleges. They supported the development of 18 Michigan Technical Education Centers operated by 17 of the 28 community colleges. While "business" has been slow the past 18 months, these centers are easy to market and provide customized training. We actually met this summer at the one that Northwest Michigan College operates.

We don't have a published "best practices" but we do have a "Fact Book" on our programs which might be helpful.

North Carolina Community College System

State Directors, Executive Committee, Biographies, Membership

The National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges is an affiliated council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).  The council provides a forum for the exchange of information about developments, trends, and problems in state systems of community colleges.

Through our affiliation with AACC, we also strive to affect national legislation that impacts our colleges and state agencies.

This is the only Council that represents the collective interest of state agencies and state boards of community colleges.  This council is a valuable forum to help state directors deal with the changes in attitude and policies towards community colleges at the international, federal, state and local levels.  We will share information and learn lessons from each other to better serve the interests of our institutions in the coming years.
